Abstract

The article deals with the problem of studying memoiristics in modern literary criticism in the context of the creative work of N.V. Kukolnik, a poet, a playwright, a writer, a journalist, a public figure of the 19th century. One of the little-investigated aspects of this problem is memories of the family, moral and ethical priorities and peculiarities of upbringing in the family of his father, V.G. Kukolnik, a scientist-encyclopedist and a teacher, the first director of Nizhyn Gymnasium of Higher Sciences (1820–1821). The purpose of the study is to recreate the family atmosphere in the noble-intellectual family on the material of "My Memoirs" by N.V. Kukolnik, to determine the factors that influenced the formation and development of scientific and artistic interests of both the author of the memoirs - Nestor Kukolnik and his brothers – Paul and Alexander, talented people, but not so famous. Much attention in the memoirs is paid to his father: the periodization of his activities (Zamoysky, St. Petersburg and Nizhyn periods) is traced; a detailed description of his social life, diligent work, career growth is given. At the same time, the memoirs include valuable details of V.G. Kukolnik's private life, his communication with children, assistance in their education and life guidelines. The memoirist draws on family legends, historical and biographical anecdotes, which were based on unusual cases and interesting events in the life of their family. Thanks to the memoirs of Nestor Kukolnyk, a psychological and social portrait of a noble family is created against the background of his time - the first quarter of the 19-th century. Nestor Kukolnik's memoirs are based on the interrelation of the personal and the social, autobiographical and memorial facts. They reproduce the picture of the modern world, the specifics of established values, rethink the artistic focus and contain reflections on the fate of individuals and the whole generation of his contemporaries.
