Abstract

The article deals with the life and career of two sisters – Tetyana and Yelyzaveta Kardynalovsky, who began as co-authors of fantastic works, but later they were forced to interrupt their literary work due to the repressions of the 1930s. The purpose of the article is double: 1) to analyze the creative heritage of women writers, to find out the main genre parameters, the range of ideas; 2) to identify common and different life experience, tracing its influence on creativity. The study is carried out in line with feminist criticism, partly involving the provisions of the “dynastic approach”. As a result of the study, the main works of the women writers were revealed, genre-thematic features were identified (poems, fantastic stories, psychological short stories, children’s stories, poems, dramatizations, autogynography). It is concluded that the creative potential of innovative authors was not realized in conditions of lack of freedom. The jointly created art world is characterized by a conditional chronotope, covering fairly wide spaces, which the characters repeatedly overcome. Space elements within the text have signs of moral marking, although without a pronounced confrontation. The time of the work is usually long, but lacunae make the work dynamic. People in this world are often represented by a certain community and loners who oppose it, defending their views and ideals. Men are guided by the rational, and women by the emotional, which, however, are considered equally important. The embodiment of emotionality is music, endowed with the ability to inspire and even humanize. Frequent events in the artistic world created by the sisters are (threats of) the death of humanity and attempts to overcome a certain doom. Such an artistic world reflects the private experience of the authors and may be an attempt to displace the impressions of the revolution and wars in which the sisters lost their usual reality. Lisa’s subsequent works reproduce a world more similar to reality, although without historical specifics. Instead, the works of Tetyana of the second period of her creativity focus on this and cover the repression and personal experience of women.
