Abstract

The purpose of the article is to find out the main trends of modern biobibliography over the last two years, described in electronic source Biographical Rating. The main objectives of the study are to determine the quantitative bibliographic indexes, the most productive bibliography centres, the main professional groups for which representatives bibliographic indexes are created. In 2017–2018, about two hundred biobibliographic indexes were published in Ukraine. The largest group is publications related to the works of scholars and writers. Indexes relating to physicians, educators, librarians, statesmen, artists, philanthropists, composers, and the military are also presented, but in much smaller numbers. Statistics data shows that books about scientists, in particular, humanitarians are in majority among the Ukrainian biobiblography of recent years. The reasons which can explain this fact are rapid development of national humanities, occurring of relevant scientific centres. Besides scientific results in the natural science need experimental evidence which may be complicated in modern social and economic conditions in Ukraine. Therefore, most bibliographic indexes are devoted to general and local historians. Another predominant group is the writers who are also related to the humanities, although most indexes are referred to little-known and regional writers. However, despite the quantitative advantage, the winners among indexes, according to the results of the Biographical Rating, are indexes relating to the composer, priest, and teacher. The main centers that produce the best personal indexes are the university libraries, associated with the departments and scientific schools, and priority areas of research. The gender ratio remains the same as in previous years — women’s bibliographic indexes are in minority.
