Abstract

The article considers the precentor's work revival in Kyiv since the Independence. The research methodology based on historical and general scientific analysis methods was found. The state of the church-choral performance and precentor's work branch of the specified period was analyzed. Problems of precentor's work and artists’ liturgical creativity spiritual traditions’ preservation in unfavorable social and historical conditions were defined. It was found that the church choir activities and the choirmaster’s work were limited to the church’s walls, which actually remain “in the shadows”. The choral church-musical creativity of artists in the context of its existence in social and historical conditions was considered. It was found that the precentor's work in the second half of the 20th century, despite the oppression of the authorities, not only continued to exist, but also developed. The range of the Orthodox choral culture problems which needed further deepening was outlined, and the names of prominent choirmasters of the second half of the 20th century required separate scientific research. The article describes the repertoire trends of that period, achievements of outstanding choir conductors, printed music publishing and cinematography actualization. The Orthodox Church choral art development in Kyiv during the Independence of Ukraine, which was marked by the competitions and festivals foundation, was substantiated. The web sites on the church singing promotion appearance’s importance was found. Attention was paid to the church choir’s repertoire individual selection, which was facilitated by a large number of works’ editions and arrangements presence in the Internet resources. Scientific works on church choral creativity and the Orthodox choral culture had been studied, which helped to generalize the precentor's work specifics in Kyiv from the Independence.
