Abstract

The article demonstrates a psychological phenomenon of the prominent Ukrainian musical artists Mikola Lisenko and Vasiliy Slipak through the prism in the light of the concept of “passionarity”. Based on the theoretical writings of Russian ethnologist Lev Gumilev and contemporary Ukrainian psychologists, the complex of characteristic traits of a passionate personality is defined. Following the analysis of the biographical details, creative activity, correspondence, and memories of M. Lisenko’s and V. Slipak’s contemporaries, the features of passionarity are specified. They were manifested in the psychological portraits of both artists: engagement in public discourse, courage, motivation, dedication, determination, vitality, temper, and readiness to sacrifice themselves. The article argues that the crucial premises of the passionate dynamics in the lives and activities of M. Lisenko and V. Slipak were patriotic and altruistic feelings.
