Abstract

The handbook is intended for developing student’s skills in critical reading of English texts. The tasks are arranged from simple (for general understanding of texts) to complicated ones (for understanding of deep senses inscribed in them) and aim at working out philological competences such as identifying textual phenomena, commenting on peculiarities of text categories, putting to use the methods of discourse analysis, etc. Reading materials comprise the texts that make up fictional and media types of discourse as well as fragments of texts of renowned writers. For students of philological departments and lecturers of humanities.
