The article says here about the reasons of Ukrainian journalists', writers' and scientists' of the 1920-30s attention to Turkey and Turkish culture. In 1923 Turkey turned from the Ottoman Empire into the secular republic led by Mustafa Kemal. Author admit that reforms in Turkey impressed the Soviet cultural figures which in the 20 years interwar period travelled in this country and described their impressions in fiction publicistic works. In addition to, a lot of them continued expecting communist transformations from Mustafa Kemal. In the article carefully analyzed materials about Turkey in such Ukrainian Soviet magazines and newspapers as «Vsesvit» («Universe»), «Chervonyy shlyah» («Red way»), «Universal’nyy gurnal» («Universal magazine»), «Garth», «Metalevi dni» («Metal days»). Journalists' and scientists' expressions of Mustafa Kemal's reforms in economical, political, social and religious parts of country's life became the object of article's characteristic. Changes in everyday life, family relationships and culture which happened in young republic also attracted their attention. It is noted that journalists paid a lot of attention to describe Turkish traditions and everyday life in their works which do have realistic information about traditional life on the east. Journalists who visited Turkey in 1920-30s think that one of the most important achievements in Mustafa Kemal's reforms is emancipation of women – the authorities abolished polygamy, women were given the right to vote in parliamentary elections, the right to enter higher educational institutions, choose any job, ride in tram and train carriages with men, go out into the street with an open face and unaccompanied. Materials about Turkey, its everyday life and culture were written more than 90 years ago but still being interesting and actual today, because it is cognitive, entertaining, attract the modern reader with intriguing statements about the past, and show an objective picture of the life of Turkey in the 1920-30s.
