Abstract

The article examines the trajectory of changing social stereotypes about the to- tal non-Ukrainianness/anti-Ukrainianness of Donbass, which is made possible by modern Ukrainian literature, cultural practices, events and projects of cultural diplomacy. Serhiy Zhadan’s play Bread Armistice was chosen as the key literary text around which the an- alytical eld is built, and his novels Boarding School and Voroshilovgrad, Victoria Ame- lina’s novel House for Home, book by Alexander Mikhed I mix your blood with coal. Understanding the Ukrainian East, PEN Ukraine project “ Bridges Instead of Walls, or What Unites Ukrainians”, analytical studies-reports of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Oleksandr Razumkov Ukrainian Center for Economic and Political Studies, devoted to the analysis of preconditions, state and consequences, as well as mod- ern projects of cultural diplomacy in eastern Ukraine. It is emphasized that Ukrainian cul- ture today is becoming an effective tool for building civil dialogue with the people of the Ukrainian East. It is emphasized that cultural ambassadors of Ukraine everywhere create effective platforms for such a dialogue and draw the attention of the Ukrainian and world community to its need in the context of postcolonial and posttotalitarian practices, as well as in future postwar cultural strategies of Ukraine.
