Abstract
The article reviews and analyzes the theoretical aspects of speech recovery in adult stroke survivors. Re- viewed the general statistics on the occurrence of strokes in Ukraine and the world and its tendencies to become “younger”; the classical, rare and modern etiological factors of stroke in young people have been studied, also the main types of speech disorders that can occur after cerebral circulatory impairments have been analyzed. The main signs of dysarthria and aphasia were highlighted. The characteristic of the main forms of impairments, according to classical classifications is given. Manifestations of bulbar, pseudobulbar, extrapyramidal (or subcortical), cere- bellar and cortical dysarthria in adults who have suffered from stroke are revealed. It is determined that in adults due to various focal lesions of the brain, an impairment of the innervation of the speech apparatus is observed, which leads to motor disorders that differ in severity. The main characteristics of aphasia are also covered, namely: motor aphasia of afferent type, motor aphasia of efferent type, dynamic aphasia, sensory (acoustic-gnostic) apha- sia, acoustic-mnestic aphasia and semantic aphasia. It has been determined that these disorders occur due to dam- age to the language centers of the brain, the primary consequences to which these impairments can lead are deter- mined. It is substantiated that speech is one of the primary means of communication with the outside world as well as a tool for the complete fulfilment as a person, which argues the need for its primary restoration in the context of post-stroke rehabilitation. The current state of quality of speech and language pathology in these cases gives grounds to conclude that the use of exclusively traditional methods and techniques is insufficient to compensate for speech and language disorders caused by stroke, and encourages further search for ways to improve it. The author sees the need for research aimed at studying speech and language disorders in people who have suffered a stroke, particularly dysarthria and aphasia, as well as identifying special conditions that optimize the process of speech recovery.
