Abstract

The article is devoted to the issue of cooperation of teachers of educational institutions with parents of children with special educational needs. Despite the fact that foreign colleagues have developed extensive research on the need to establish partnerships with parents of children with special needs in inclusive education, the positive results of such cooperation, as well as approaches and methods of productive interaction between professionals and parents, we found that in Ukraine this issue still remains declarative and devoid of a practical implementation algorithm. This inappropriate state of the team support of children with special educational needs is determined by: 1) regulatory and legal support of inclusive education, which is based on the provisions set out in Ukrainian legislation and regulations; 2) educational and methodical developments (articles and abstracts of dissertations analyzed by us); 3) inclusive practice, the conclusions of which we drew from the analysis of semi-structured questionnaires developed specifically for teachers and parents of children with special educational needs, as well as records of our interviews. The generalization and systematization of the results of our study made it possible to highlight particularly vulnerable aspects of the partnership between teachers and parents. Among them: narrow and one-sided understanding of important concepts in the context of partnership between teachers and parents ("parental involvement", "participation in decision-making"); lack of understanding between teachers and parents, real dialogue and feedback; depriving parents of a choice; lack of a clear algorithm for establishing partnerships and their substantive support, etc. At the same time, a comparative analysis of the questionnaires of teachers, on the one hand, and parents, on the other, revealed a mismatch of ideas about the nature and content of cooperation between them. The analyzed educational and methodological developments of foreign scholars, devoted to the issues of partnership between teachers and parents, made it possible to systematize effective ways to improve the interaction between them in the Ukrainian educational environment.
