Abstract

Background: At the beginning of the XXI century, the production of occasionalisms in the Ukrainian language intensified, especially in the media and Internet discourse. It is noticed that a significant part of them are various complex words that require special in-depth study. Such units are relevant to our study. Purpose: Identify and analyze the features of the creation of complex occasionalisms in the media and in the Internet discourse of the Ukrainian language of the early XXI century. Results: Complex occasionalisms are an extremely dynamic subsystem, which under the influence of extralinguistic and intralinguistic factors is constantly replenished with new lexical units that contribute to the enrichment of the Ukrainian national language. The analysis revealed productive ways of word formation of author’s words – pure composition and composition with suffixation, word formation, telescopy, abbreviation, morphological-syntactic method. A characteristic feature of complex authorial derivatives is the diverse stylistic combination of complete or truncated creative bases (mostly book and colloquial). Complex occasionalisms from the media and Internet discourse are an important means of creating expressiveness and emotionality, imagery and accuracy. They express different stylistic registers: familiarity, humor, ridicule, irony, contempt, vulgarity, resentment, and others. Such words are intended to enliven the presentation, to attract attention with unusualness and to influence the addressee of information.Discussion: We believe that the material of the article provides a basis for further in-depth study of new complex occasional formations in the comparative aspect, involving other Slavic languages in the analysis
