Abstract
The article considers current methods of teaching a foreign language in higher educational institutions in the era of globalization, as one of the important structural elements of the education system. This article analyses the interpretation of such categories as «current methodology», «the process of globalization», as well as considers the main characteristics of the methodology of teaching foreign languages in modern universities. We look at the process of learning a foreign language in five aspects: reading, speaking, writing, listening, and watching videos. The following methods of teaching foreign languages are studied: grammatical-translation method, audiolingual method, audio-visual method, linguosociocultural method, reproductive method, scientific research method, problem-research method, project method, communicative method, direct methods and silent method). It is established that mastering various behavioural strategies contributes to the formation of such personal qualities as sensitivity and receptivity to the mental state of others. The following stages of work for mastering various behavioural strategies are established: determining the level of knowledge of students; acquiring language knowledge and skills that are considered during exercises; expanding and deepening the scope of professional skills; mastering cross-cultural communication strategies, which should be based on fragments of Professional Communication, Research and discussion of problem situations. The influence of Foreign Language Teaching Methods on the formation of students’ communicative competence is described. Situational communication in foreign language classes using various techniques allows you to activate communication, the use of authentic audio and video materials deepens students’ linguistic and cultural knowledge. It is proved that the use of authentic materials contributes to the formation of not only communicative, but also cross-cultural competence of students. The data obtained show that the use of modern methods of teaching foreign languages in higher educational institutions contributes to the formation of students’ necessary competencies, which were dictated by the processes of globalization.
