The article analyzes Turkmen motifs in postwar lyrical works and the poem “The Word about Makhtum-Kuly” by the Ukrainian poet Yaroslav Shporta (1922–1956). Y. Shporta as part of a military unit came after the Second World War to Turkmenistan, where he spent several years, visited Iran. As a result, Turkmen images, motives, impressions were reflected in his works. The poem “The Word about Makhtum-Kuly" (1954) comprehends the problems of creative searches, crises, the definition of one’s own purpose and idiostyle on the basis of biography and lyrical works of the classic Turkmen and world poetry Magtymguly Pyragy (Makhtumkuli Fragi). The poet is in crisis because of the feeling that he does not find a proper response from his compatriots. To overcome doubts and misunderstanding helps the unique beauty of the native land and communication with Turkmens (in the spirit of sociological requirements of the time, these Turkmen are people of work, in the poem it is “ratai” (“ploughman”)). In the poem “In the forty-fifth year, in Ashgabat...” found a reproduction of autobiographical impressions of staying in the capital of Turkmenia, in particular about acquaintance with his future wife in the bustling Ashgabat bazaar. The poem “To the Turkmen poet Rukhi Aliyev” is full of gratitude for the fact that R. Aliyev liberated his native Ukraine for Y. Shporta, introduced the Ukrainian poet to many treasures of Turkmen culture. The text of the poem by Y. Shporta introduced several exoticisms and images from the works of R. Aliyev. The version of the poem “The Word about Makhtum-Kuly” and the poem “To the Turkmen poet Rukhi Aliyev” reproduces the rhythmic and strophic features of the Eastern, in particular Persian and Turkmen, lyrics. “Turkmen” works of Yaroslav Shporta became a significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian-Turkmen cultural relations.
