Abstract

The article conducts a comparative analysis of the plays of the Turkmen writer Huseyn Mukhtarov “The Allan Family (Family Honor)” (1949) and the Ukrainian playwright Oleksiy Kolomiyets “The Wild Angel” (1978). Based on this analysis, the author of the article proves that after the translation of the play by the Turkmen playwright into Ukrainian, it became well known to Ukrainian readers, writers and playwrights and that O. Kolomiyets took its plot as the basis of his play. At the center of both works is the acute moral and ethical problem of turning a leader into an imperious ruler, and then a fool who begins to consider common property his personal. Such behavior is contrary to the primordial folk ideas about conscience and honor, the bearers of which are the older members of the family. It is they who correct the mistakes of their sons, force them to correct their mistakes. The moral foundations of Turkmens and Ukrainians are closely related, typologically similar. The play by O. Kolomiyets borrows many plot moves of the work of G. Mukhtarov, sometimes to small details. This method of borrowing and transforming other people’s works was very productive in the work of the Ukrainian playwright. But if the conflicts of the relationship between father and son form the basis of the play by G. Mukhtarov, then in the play of O. Kolomiyets they are on the periphery. The Ukrainian playwright creatively borrowed the vicissitudes of the work of the Turkmen author, transferred them to the Ukrainian national soil, transformed, creating an original highly artistic work that became a classic of Ukrainian and Soviet literature, just as the play of G. Mukhtarov became a classic of Turkmen and Soviet drama. Both works were once awarded the State Prize of the USSR and have not lost their relevance to this day.
