Abstract

The article examines the content of “green” business and the prerequisites for its development in Ukraine and the world in the context of the worsening economic, environmental, social, energy and humanitarian crises. Adopted in 2015, the global program for ensuring a sustainable future until 2030 laid the foundations for the development of “green” business both in economically developed countries and in developing countries, and also focused the attention of the world’s leading leaders on the need for a careful attitude to the environment, rational use of natural resources, water and soil purification, introduction of energy-saving technologies and active search for alternative energy sources. Among a number of countries in the world, Ukraine in 2022 took 52nd place with an index of 49.60 in the rating of environmental efficiency, yielding to most of the countries of the European Union. However, our country is improving its indicators according to this rating from year to year, because in 2012-2022 the index of Ukraine increased by 6.20. Such trends give hope that the movement towards environmental friendliness and energy independence will continue, despite Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine. In the article, the authors focused attention on the main solutions to acute environmental problems of society, which can be obtained through the development of “green” business. These solutions, in particular, are the basis of the implementation of the rules of effective operation of “green” business – reduce consumption, reuse raw materials, recycle waste, because main purpose of business operation is to reduce the negative impact of business activities on the environment and promote the rational use of resources. Success in the work of “green” business is enhanced by the creation of so-called “green” offices, which are focused on eco-purchasing, energy saving, rational heat and water supply, “green” printing and “green” advertising, eco-transport, etc. In order to achieve the maximum effect in organizing and promoting the activities of a “green” office, organizations usually choose one of two approaches – ecodevelopment and environmental management. Both approaches focus on protecting the environment, optimal consumption, combating climate change, and prudent use of natural resources. However, Ukraine is still behind in the ranking of the countries of the world regarding the effectiveness of combating climate change – our country took 17th place in 2020, which indicates an inadequate level of attention to the prevention of climate change.
