Abstract

This article says about the extraordinary spread of literary reporting on traveling topics, which entered Ukrainian Soviet journalism during the period of national and cultural revival, which was called “korenization”. In particular, Semen Sklyarenko’s series of reports “Soviet Belarusian”, written after the author, as a journalist of “Proletarska Pravda”, visited Soviet Belarusian in the late 1920s. The article describes the authors’ impressions of the reforms of the Soviet government in the economic, political, social, and cultural life of the republic. It is noted that a lot of attention in the reports is focused on Ukrainian-Belarusian historical and cultural ties. The main emphasis in the research is on the fact that a characteristic feature of Semen Sklyarenko’s cycle of reports “Soviet Belarusian” is a tendency towards fragmentation. The cycle is divided into four parts, but retains its integrity due to the presentation of information from 1 person. It is noted that the chronological type of composition chosen by the journalist allows not only to describe events, but also to share his own impressions and thoughts from what he saw. The reporter’s travel observations often consist of recording all sorts of little things that reproduce the unique Belarusian flavor. It is emphasized that the language of the reports of “Soviet Belarusian” is extremely simple, informal. One gets the impression that the journalist is simply talking to his readers and conveying the necessary information to them. The author tries to make his reports as interesting as possible for the reader. That is why he introduces details into the text that make the cycle more interesting, and on the other hand, distract readers from the monotonous and chronic description of the journey itself. Literary reports on the traveling theme of Semen Sklyarenko “Soviet Belarusian”, despite almost a hundred years since they were written, are read with interest and are still relevant today, as they are interesting, informative, exciting, attract modern readers with freshness of feelings, intriguing presentation of what they have experienced and seen, and show a picture of life in Soviet Belarusian in the 1920s.
