Abstract
The technology of learning by means of business games has acquired a new meaning in the context of teaching and learning a foreign language. The purpose of the current investigation is to characterize the possibilities and features of using the business game method for the development of communicative competences during the study of foreign languages. This contributes to the development of speech initiative and strengthens the communicative component of the lesson. In addition, business games benefit from their ability to demonstrate students' knowledge and skills in an integrated way. The specificity of the approach to the organization of students' educational and cognitive activities using business games should ensure the development and improvement of their skills to analyze and research professional situations, choose adequate and effective ways to solve them, form values and ideals of the individual, develop an individual communicative worldview and behavioral concept, and improve methods its practical implementation. The article analyzes the main prerequisites for the successful organization of a business game for the formation of students' foreign communication skills. The advantages and disadvantages of using business games in classes are highlighted. The business game requires the creative implementation of competencies in realistic and meaningful activities to solve professional tasks. Under the condition of appropriate careful preparation and design, business educational games are fruitful: students are fully involved in dynamic role-playing communication with problem solving and critical thinking activities. The direct educational result is either improvement or mastery of the target foreign language professional and communicative competence based on an interdisciplinary approach, creativity and strategic thinking. Attention is also paid to how the context of quarantine measures, as well as wartime conditions (as a result – dominant distance learning), on the one hand, transforms the potential of the business game, and on the other hand, limits the very possibility of frequent use of this method. The development of methodical materials for practical application of business games in classes for various specialties, as well as experimental research on the impact of business games on the communication skills of students of education are named as promising areas of research.
