Abstract

This article is devoted to the question of the interaction of piano jazz performance with academic music and its important component, the history of piano art. Jazz is an art of transnational universalism whose creative method exhibits an active tendency toward the unity of music, the interpenetration and interdependence of its species. Thus, it is in jazz that the ground has been prepared for the creation of a new synthesis that enriches and enhances the vitality of musical art as a whole, and all of its kinds separately. There are a number of areas in which the creative thought of jazz pianists intersects with the academic musical tradition and the searches of the piano masters of the past. These include the digitized bass in the music of the ХVII – ХVIII centuries, the rhythm and texture field, and the powerful tradition of variation arrangements, which echoes jazz improvisational arrangements, etc. In jazz pianist, two lines have successfully crossed, one from the history of jazz music and the other representing the history of piano art in general. The purpose of this article is to reveal the interaction of piano jazz performance with the music of the academic tradition, to analyze the similarities in the models of musical thinking adopted in academic and jazz pianism. After all, the openness of jazz, its amazing susceptibility to certain aspects not only of folk and pop art, but also to the academic direction of musical and historical process, has determined the vitality and creative power of musical thinking of jazz pianists. The article is based on a comparative method of research. Novelty of the work: 1. The object of the research is a layer of piano jazz performance in its interaction with academic musical art that has been little explored by domestic music science. 2. This is the first experience of analyzing the refraction of musical tradition in piano jazz performance, synthesizing creative impulses from different, often distant from each other, musical systems
