Abstract

The issue of the relationship between psychophysiological characteristics and physiological response of the functional systems to alterations in the internal environment of the body is most acute in the case of studying how the human body works in extreme conditions, when resistance to stress and efficiency of adaptation to changes in living conditions is largely determined by psychophysiological characteristics of the individual and their individual reactivity. One of the methods of predicting the reliability and success of competitive activity is to monitor the state of psychophysiological functions, as well as the functional state of the athlete’s neuromuscular system. Objective. To carry out the correlation analysis of psychophysiological and electroneuromyographic parameters of elite rowers. Methods. Tapping test, electroneuromyographic study, technique of measuring the conduction velocity in motor and sensory fibers of the median nerve of the upper limb. Results. A correlation analysis of the data that was performed using the Spearman test showed that both psychophysiological and (to a lesser extent) electroneuromyographic parameters were associated with age and athletic experience. The increase in age and duration of sports training was accompanied by the slight increase in the motor component of sensorimotor response, in addition the time of central information processing decreased and the stability of sensorimotor response increased. The amplitude of muscle responses in some cases decreased with age and increasing athletic experience. Athletes with a higher response rate to a visual stimulus had a higher conduction velocity in the motor and sensory fibers of the median nerve, which innervates the flexor muscles of the index finger involved in stimulus response. Athletes with a higher rate of response to visual stimuli and dynamic muscular endurance during hand movements also had higher amplitudes of muscle responses to the stimulation of motor and sensory fibers. The data obtained may contribute to the discovery of the mechanisms of functioning of the human neuromuscular system, in particular in the context of adaptation to prolonged physical exercise in sports
