Abstract
The article is aimed to reconstruct a picture of the musical life of Ukrainians in the Far East (in Zelenyi Klyn and Kharbin) in the first third of the 20th century. The research methodology is based on a systematic approach focused on the study of the musical life of Ukrainians of the Far East as a complex phenomenon that reveals the interconnection of forms and tendencies of development. A number of general scientific methods have been used in the research: historical method (to analyses socio-political and cultural processes in the first third of the 20th century); historical and cultural method (to define the artistic and aesthetic principles of Ukrainian musical culture of the indicated period); the method of historiographical analysis (to comprehend the scientific literature on the issue); chronological (to reveal the dynamics of musical life of Ukrainians in the designated area); descriptive (to systematize the collected material and characterize the researched object); biographical (to study the activities of the prominent persons of Ukrainian musical culture of the Far East). The scientific novelty consists in collecting and systematizing information about forms, tendencies, and personalities of Ukrainians’ musical life in Zelenyi Klyn and Kharbin in the first half of the 20th century. Conclusions. The historical dynamics of the musical life development of the Ukrainians of Zelenyi Klyn and Kharbin in the conditions of political and socio-cultural tendencies of the first third of the twentieth century is traced. The primacy of choral art and music and theatre in Zelenyi Klyn and Kharbin is defined, and the main forms and tendencies of the development of these spheres are outlined. In Harbin, musical life is demonstrated to be more extensive, encompassing various movements and forms of instrumental art, musical theatre and popular music, as well as music editions and sound recording. The names of prominent figures from Zelenyi Klyn and Kharbin are identified and their activities and achievements are highlighted
