Abstract

Xia Yan's (夏衍，1900–1995) dramatic work is characterized by an extraordinary variety of topics related to various spheres of human life. In the drama "Fragrant Flowers on the Horizon" (《芳草天涯》) these are social topics, issues of civic duty, love topics, misunderstandings in marriage, differences between generations, people's lives in the stormy times of the first half of the 20th century. One of the topics that worried Xia Yan and which he raises in the drama "Fragrant Flowers on the Horizon" is the women's issue and the problem of gender equality.
