Abstract

The article focuses on the specifics of organizing the study of the unit "Sounds and Letters" in Ukrainian language lessons in primary school. The analysis of the scientific and methodological literature on this subject is made. The nature and contents of the basic concepts of the study are revealed. The main directions of the teacher's work on the formation of phonetic and graphic literacy of primary schoolchildren are indicated: work on children's awareness of the sound composition of the Ukrainian language; learning the correct pronunciation of all sounds of the mother language; introducing children to the structure of the speech system; development of children's speech breathing; forming articulation skills; development of phonemic hearing of children; work on intonation expressiveness of speech; formation of graphic skills to represent sounds in writing with letters. The steps of forming the phonetic and graphic competence of primary school students are determined. The teaching conditions for the effective learning of the unit "Sounds and Letters" by primary school pupils as a basis for further learning of reading and writing are presented. The psychological and teaching bases of forming phonetic and graphic skills of primary school pupils are characterized. The organizational and methodological aspects of this problem are considered. The main steps of the methodology for the formation of phonetic and graphic concepts in primary school students are described. The methodical system of work is presented, which provides effective methods and techniques, forms and tools of teaching, which are advisable to use in the process of learning the unit "Sounds and Letters" in primary school. Exercises aimed at forming the phonetic and graphic literacy of primary schoolchildren at the pre-primary, reproductive and productive-creative levels of learning phonetics and graphics are recommended. The methodical recommendations for primary school teachers on the organization of studying the unit "Sounds and Letters" and the forming of phonetic and graphic skills of primary school students in Ukrainian language lessons are indicated.
