Abstract

The relevance of the presented article is determined by the globalization and European integration dimensions of modern society, which objectively determine the need to increase the cultural competence of the individual; increasing the role of musical art and music education; the urge of domestic music teachers to turn to the experience of Chinese music education, which is one of the oldest in the world and has accumulated thorough theoretical and practical experience in this educational field; the desire of domestic and Chinese teachers to integrate into the global educational space while preserving national cultural and educational traditions; the desire of domestic teachers to use the achievements of foreign musical and pedagogical education, which has not yet been researched to an adequate extent. The article focuses on the key milestones of the genesis of music education in China, which began its formation during the time of Confucius, when the outstanding monument of ancient Chinese sung poetry "Shi Jing" ("Books of Songs") appeared, which was included in the canonical collection of Confucian texts of the Wu-Jing. It was stated that the first educational institutions where music lessons were taught were opened by Englishmen and Americans ("Morrison School", the "office" of Chun Xin, the "reading room" of He Ling Ying Hua, etc.); that the reform movement (end of the 19th - beginning of the 20th century) stimulated the opening of "institutes" in various cities of China, which already had a larger number of students. The next step in the development of music education in China, which was related to the introduction of the educational discipline "Music" in the professional educational institutions, is highlighted. It was found that a significant event in music education in China (the first quarter of the 20th century) was the opening of institutions of higher music education (conservatories) and music faculties in universities for the purpose of training professional musicians and vocalists, as well as training teachers to teach music and singing. It is noted that an important milestone in the genesis of music education in China at the beginning of the 20th century was the process of active dissemination of foreign models of music education, particularly, the models of music education by K. Orff, Z. Koday and E. Jacques-Dalcroze. The modern stage of the development of music education in China is related to its scientific justification.
