Abstract

The article examines the development of the traditions of musical and aesthetic education of the younger generation in Ukraine by means of choral singing. The authors of the article note that choral singing has been an integral element of social life since ancient times. In ancient states, it was used as a means not only of entertainment and ritual action, but also of harmonizing human relations at various levels. At the same time, starting from the early Middle Ages, for many centuries choral singing performed a mainly applied role in society - it was used as a means of conducting church liturgies, religious, moral and patriotic education. The gradual enrichment of philosophical and psychological-pedagogical ideas about the functional and, in particular, the aesthetic and educational significance of music for an individual and the entire society, which began since the Renaissance, had practically no effect on the actual state of education of students in general educational institutions until the end of the 19th century. It is emphasized that only at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries did the theory of musical and aesthetic education of children and youth come significantly closer to real practice. At the same time, along with the awareness of the pedagogical community of the need for harmonious and comprehensive development of the personality from an early age and the special role in this of musical and aesthetic education by means of various activities of the child, choral singing gradually lost its importance as the dominant type of musical activity of children in the process of school education. The authors of the article note that the problem of using the diverse educational potential of choral singing in the conditions of school education remains relevant in domestic pedagogy, experts emphasize that choral singing, together with other types of musical activity, is an important and integral means of musical and aesthetic education of the young generation.
