Abstract

The article examines the issue of trends in changes and development of the mechanism of ensuring Ukrainian society in terms of social security of the country. It was determined that the rapidly changing needs of society, in particular, negative impacts in the form of quarantine restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine, significantly affect the level of social security. Substantial changes in the priorities of city residents regarding the most significant criteria for ensuring social security during peacetime and wartime. It was determined that in order to ensure a sufficient level of social security from an economic point of view in peacetime, the most important priorities of the city's residents were: the availability of work, the availability of housing and the ability to pay for communal services or housing rent, and the availability of medical, educational and other services. During the martial law, the priority criteria for ensuring social security were the following: the possibility of physical protection of residents' lives (availability of shelter), availability of food and drinking water, availability of medical services and medicines. It was concluded that during the war in Ukraine, the number of residents in need of social protection increased many times. It was determined that the war in Ukraine caused significant negative consequences for the livelihood of the country's population: loss of working capacity due to injuries, loss of work, reduction in wages, loss or damage to housing, reduction in the purchasing power of citizens, and an increase in prices for resources, including food products . There is an established trend of increasing the number of charitable funds to provide assistance to the population. It is concluded that the "bitter" experience of the Ukrainian people during the wartime stimulates the Ukrainian society to develop new mechanisms of social protection of the country's residents and to develop new ways of ensuring a stable level of social security of the population.
