Abstract

This article presents the results of the study evaluating signs and factors of adolescents’ adaptation to the conditions of studying at secondary school. The conducted survey with the participation of fifth and sixth grade pupils and the comparison of the received statistical data made it possible to establish that the educational environment of the school is overall favorable for the adaptive processes of adolescents. This conclusion is supported by the predominance of pupils positive attitude towards teachers (the latter are characterized as demanding but friendly by most of the respondents), the prevalence of adolescents ' emotions of interest and joy during the educational process, and the ease of transition to distance learning. Also favorable is the supportive attitude of parents regarding the education of their adolescents’ children, reflected by many respondents in the survey. At the same time, such signs of maladaptive processes deserve attention, the total prevalence of the state of fatigue among the surveyed adolescents, the prevalence of the need to cancel or reduce the amount of homework, the subjective experience of the complication of the learning process in secondary school and the dominance of pragmatic motivations of learning among schoolchildren. Based on the received statistical data from the schoolchildren of the surveyed classes a descending trend towards successful adaptation of the sixth grade pupils was identified. This is clearly evidenced by the following signs: an increase of the adolescents sample who do not like to study in secondary school, a more frequent subjective experience of the difficulty of this studying, emotions of anger and boredom, a decrease in communication with teachers and an increase in their indifferent attitude towards schoolchildren, the dominance of the motive of the habit of studying. The educational process that takes place in the midst of the difficult conditions of the war of Ukraine against Russian Federation determines the urgency of psychological support for the adaptation of domestic adolescents to the new conditions of school education.
