Abstract

The article is devoted to new phraseology in the Ukrainian language of the late 20th – early 21st centuries. The relevance of the work is determined by the need to study the dynamics of the phraseological subsystem. The purpose of the article is to identify, record and analyze various new phraseological units, in particular the main sources of their replenishment, thematic groups, partly their semantic, structural and morphological features. The tasks of the work: 1) to introduce a certain layer of new phraseology into scientific circulation; 2) to identify and present the main sources of replenishment of new phraseological units in the researched period; 3) to classify the studied phraseological units by thematic groups; 4) to partially consider the semantic, structural and morphological features of the above-mentioned units. The material for the research was actually new Ukrainian phraseology (more than 100 units), which function in mass media, conversational, the Internet, and partly in artistic discourses. Two main sources of enrichment of the modern Ukrainian language with new idioms have been identified and considered. Firstly, these are external borrowings from the English language and its American version, as well as from the Russian language. So far, new phraseological units from other languages have been isolated. The effect of the globalization trend, which is manifested in the significant growth of the corpus of new phraseological units from the English language, in particular in the socio-political, military, economic and industrial-professional spheres, is evidenced, and the factors that led to this are presented. Among new borrowings from the Russian language, phraseological units of a colloquial character predominate, and book ones are rare. Secondly, an effective source of replenishment of the Ukrainian language is national phraseological neoplasms, which reflect the life of modern Ukrainian society.
