Abstract
The article deals with the problem of the English language reading and speaking skills development in the process of journalist professional training. The analysis is focused on the current research into the problem of university student foreign language teaching, future journalists in particular; the efficient methods and techniques for teaching foreign language reading and listening being defined. The author suggests various types of reading professional, journalistic literature and fiction, including intensive (for the development of linguistic competence and the enhancement of professional knowledge and skills under classroom conditions) and extensive ones – for further enhancement of reading skills and strategies (mostly in individual study). Particular attention is drawn to the issue of appropriateness of the use of fiction pieces for language education purposes. Thus, the most efficient and perspective directions are outlined as well as the concrete techniques of the use of literature are suggested both for inside and outside the classroom use. Besides the above-mentioned types of reading, the article describes such efficient activities as writing annotations, abstract translations, jigsaw reading etc. As one of the productive methodological ideas serving the purpose of reading and listening skills development, the article views the efficient selection and appropriate use of authentic audio and video recordings. Among those are not only educational but also information Internet resources providing their compatibility with the future journalists professional needs as well as their necessary and adequate methodological support. The article suggests the ideas of adaptation of programmes of preparation for taking international standard exams (Cambridge FCE, IELTS) to journalists professional training syllabi in terms of teaching English language listening and reading, the use of typical examinations tasks with the aim of training, testing knowledge and skills, self-control. Finally, the author puts forward a thesis and practical recommendations about the possibility of realisation of such principles as individual and differential approaches towards various student categories by means of creating digital courses in MOODLE environment.
