Abstract

The article presents an analysis of the concept of Archetype as a universal symbolic image and substantiates the specifics of its occurrence in dreams, myths, fairy tales, religion and various types of art. Approaches to defining the concept of Archetype are analysed and attention is focused on the Archetype as a subconscious manifestation of ethnogenetic memory and manifestation of national identity. The article investigates how the ancient archetypes of the collective subconscious of humanity appear in myths, religions, dreams and fantasies, manifesting themselves in the modern world in works of art. The article presents a classification of archetypes (character archetypes; situations that are repeated in several stories; symbolic archetypes). The archetype of the Shadow is studied as one of the universal symbolic images that reflects the dark, unconscious part of the human psyche. The peculiarities of using the Shadow archetype in Ukrainian choreography as a means of deepening the emotional connection with the audience, expressing universal themes that are understandable to different cultures and generations are presented. The article analyses the use of the Archetype in the creation of dance rituals, characters and images, dialogues and storylines, and costume symbolism. On the example of creating a performance, it is investigated how the Shadow Archetype can be used in contemporary choreography to create emotionally rich and meaningful choreographic works based on the use of techniques for embodying internal struggle, breaking stereotypes, expressing dark emotions, metamorphosis and change, and interacting with other archetypes. The holiday of Ivan Kupala is studied, as one of the oldest and Ukrainian holidays, which has deep roots in ancient Slavic beliefs and symbols and is based on one of the key symbols of the collective consciousness – the archetype of the Shadow. The article explores the peculiarities of using the archetype of the Shadow in creating a performance on the theme of Kupala traditions on the example of the implementation of the creative project "The Archetype of the Shadow in the Traditions of the Ukrainian People: Ivan Kupala Holiday" by students of the speciality 024 Choreography of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University.
