Abstract
The paper’s objective. It is our objective to show, based on “Writer’s notes” by Oleksa Varavva (Kobets), the influence of Mykola Khvyliovyi (the star of extraordinary brightness) on Kyiv literature community in 1920th. Also, to reconstruct the connection between the two writers in Kharkiv, who were living in Kharkiv house “Slovo” and were close friends. Separately, we aim at discovering social and political mood among Ukrainian humanitarians between 1920th and 1930th on examples of their day-to-day life. To revisit the funeral of Mykola Khvyliovyi based on memoirs of Oleksa Varavva as he was his close friend, and after Mykola committed suicide, was among close friends who was handling the funeral ceremony. Research methodology is based on historism, scientific objectivity, systemic approach principles. General historic methods were used, among others: bibliographical, problem-based, microhistorical, retrospective and prosopographical. Scientific novelty is based on usage of rarely available and either unpublished or partially published and on yet not published materials that are scientifically used for the first time, ie memoirs and memoir materials of the writer’s and editor’s heritage. Conclusions. Difficult and controversial period between 1920-1930th in Ukrainian culture is now traditionally called as “Ukrainian renaissance” or “Red renaissance”. But this renaissance had a very limited extend as was in between the ideological frames of soviet regime. Thus, extreme value for the description of Ukrainain humanitarians’ lives have the ego-documents. This is strikingly presented by the memoirs of Oleksa Varavva about M. Khvyliovyi. They show that Mykola Khvyliovuy had significant ideological influence on writing society and Ukrainian-soviet humanitarians as a whole. Discussions of the writer, provided by the memoirist, show that M. Khvyliovyi supported Ukrainain orientation of magazine “Nova hromada” and was forced to conceive the real opposition to the soviet regime.
