Abstract

The purpose of the study is to highlight the trends in the formation of national identity in the context of the repertoire strategy of amateur dance groups, to analyse the influence of national traditions on the formation of youth self-awareness. The research methodology used complex general scientific methods within a cultural approach, which made it possible to trace the sequence of artistic processes in the context of the multidimensionality of culture. One of the general scientific methods is analytical, which allowed us to analyse the historiography of the groups, repertoire, facts and events that influenced their development. The consideration of choreographic compositions based on local folklore material using the systematic method made it possible to determine the main trends in the formation of national identity. The method of theoretical generalisation was used to identify the significant factors of national awareness and the establishment of Ukrainian identity. The scientific novelty lies in the consideration of the concept of “national identity” through the prism of amateur choreographic art of the Kyiv region, which is a current challenge of our time. By studying the work of amateur dance groups in the Kyiv region, the influence of folk art on the formation of a stable awareness of their identity among young people has been revealed. The author analyses the identical parameters of identity and national dance culture, which share historical memory, a set of spiritual and cultural values, and a strong awareness of the original Ukrainian nation. Folk dances, having incorporated the moral and spiritual principles of our ancestors, have become the foundation of the national idea. The distinctive features of Ukrainian folk choreography are rooted in established national traditions and have become a solid foundation for the establishment of Ukrainian national identity, which is vividly reflected in the works of amateur dance ensembles of the Kyiv region. Choreographic performances of folk themes demonstrate the educational ideas of the Cossack era into the modern space – “Hopak”, “Kozachok”, “Pidkivochka”, “Honta”, etc. Folk dance compositions form the value and cultural guidelines of national identity in young people, such as performances “Kalyna”, “Verbova doshchechka”, “Letiv ptashok”. Historical memory is preserved in the folklore performances “Varvarka”, “Lyon”, “Yukhnivchanka”, which becomes a major factor in the formation of national identity. Thus, amateur dance groups in the Kyiv region are the main carriers of folk art in the youth space, shaping Ukrainian national identity and national consciousness. It is Ukrainian choreographic art that is a significant factor in the education of moral and spiritual values, a guardian of ethnic culture that affirms Ukrainian identity, laying a powerful foundation for nation-building. The characterisation of the concepts of “historical memory” and “folklore traditions” has an identical load of the core aspect of the problem under consideration. The concept of “culture” as the only carrier of national identity, which has always been the main identifier of nationality, is studied. The functioning of choreographic canons in culture, which influence the formation of national identity, is substantiated. The syncretism of national identity with Ukrainian national art is proved.
