Abstract

The article examines the issue of enantiodromy in Jean-Paul Sartre's novel Nausea. Special attention is paid to the nature of the phenomenon of enantiodromy itself (its real and imaginary manifestations), patterns of interaction of opposites in historical, social and personal interactions. The question is raised about the impossibility of straight-line control of events and phenomena, since such attempts cause an even greater deviation from the desired result. Special attention is paid to the thoughts of Antoine Rocantin about the nature of the internal component of life's conflicts. The most used and specific definitions of enantiodromy are given. The authors dwell on the consideration of the internal and external dynamics of enantiodromy in the novel “Nausea”, which is tracked through the prism of the main character's thoughts. It is proved that enantiodromy is one of the main principles of building a “new” life model of the main character Antoine Roquentin, which partly corresponds to the ideological principles of the existential philosophy of Jean-Paul Sartre. A review of research related to enantiodromy and the work of Jean-Paul Sartre was performed. Jung's theses about the principles of balance in the natural world, where any extreme is opposed by a certain system aimed at restoring the balance, are revealed. It has been proven that there is a principle of inevitable reversal of circumstances after reaching a certain level of balance. Features of the novel “Nausea” demonstrate the nature of enantiodromy. It has been proven that the enantiodromy of life is considered a partial answer to the difficulty of grasping the essence of the course of events and psychological balances of the individual in particular and society in general. Special attention is paid to the fact that everything in the work is done through conflict. With this, Sartre reproduces the teachings of Heraclitus, which affirms the desire for opposites, from which consonance is created. The author's many years of philosophical observations led to the idea that everything is directed in different directions (disagreement), is in harmony with itself, is the primary basis and gives birth to everything - in the struggle, from what is different, the most beautiful harmony is born. The author elaborates on the complexity of perceiving opposites, as the correct answer to the challenges of fate in the work often has the most extravagant choices, and the "wrong answers" often correspond to our expectations.
