Abstract
The article examines the rapid evolution of computer lexis, focusing on neologisms coined between 2019 and 2023. It analyzes over 200 new words and phrases related to computers, the internet, artificial intelligence, and digital culture, compiled from scholarly articles, blogs, and reputable databases. The study explores various word formation processes involved, including compounding, blending, affixation, shortening, semantic change, pun formation, and metaphorical usage. The analysis identifies several key trends driving the emergence of these neologisms, such as the rise of AI and automation, the pervasiveness of internet culture and social media, the shift to remote work during the COVID-19 pandemic, concerns around digital security and cybercrime, and the anticipation of future technologies like quantum computing, virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality (AR). The article also examines the sociolinguistic aspects of these neologisms, highlighting how they reflect changes in society and culture driven by technological advances, tensions surrounding privacy and ethics, the blending of digital and physical realms, the rise of gig labor and crowdsourcing, and the formation of online subcultures and identities.
