Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of the analysis of modern trends in mergers and acquisitions of companies in international business by the volume of deals. A growing trend in the number of mergers and acquisitions of companies in international business was revealed: from the period 1985-2023, the number of deals increased 13 times and reached 40,000 deals in 2023. There is a general trend towards an increase in the value of mergers and acquisitions of companies in international business, but the total value of all mergers and acquisitions varies from year to year. Identified extreme points: the minimum and maximum value of deals for the period 2003-20023. The minimum total value of mergers and acquisitions in international business for the period 2003-2023 is as follows: the first minimum in 2003 – 1411 billion US dollars, the second minimum in 2009 – 2187 billion US dollars, the third minimum in 2023 – 2495 billion US dollars. The maximum total value of mergers and acquisitions in international business for the period 2003-2023 is as follows: the first maximum in 2007 - 4920 billion US dollars, the second maximum in 2015 - 4779 billion US dollars, the third maximum in 2021 - 5236 billion US dollars. Analysis of the dynamics of the number of mergers and acquisitions of companies in international business worth up to 1 billion US dollars showed a general upward trend, however, starting from 2021, the number of such deals decreased. Based on the results of the analysis, the following trends were identified: an increase in the average value of mergers and acquisitions of companies in international business worth more than 1 billion USD each for the period 1985-2023 to 3.9 billion USD in 2023 and a decrease in the average value mergers and acquisitions of companies in international business worth up to 1 billion US dollars each for the period 1985-2023 to 24 million US dollars in 2023. A trend of growth in the value of each deal worth more than 1 billion US dollars was revealed, which amounted to in 2022 61.7% of the value of all mergers and acquisitions of companies on the international market.
