Psychosocial difficulties faced by combatants after returning to the conditions of peaceful civilian life affect the specifics of relationships in the family, with friends, the closest environment, and social communication. According to the Unified State Register, as of January 2023, almost 800,000 people in Ukraine have the status of a participant in hostilities. Currently, the problem of the family's readiness for the return of a combatant to their home requires significant study and research, because their relationship will depend on how the family and the combatant survive the adaptation period. The article examines the problem of the family's readiness for the return of a participant in hostilities home, the specifics of the return to the conditions of civilian life of participants in hostilities are indicated. Strategies for overcoming the problems of the adaptation period are outlined: help from the outside, the nature of professional help, help from the family, which provides support to a participant in hostilities in adapting to a peaceful life. Recommendations for family members have been defined, the observance of which will contribute to the improvement of relations with a participant in hostilities: it is important to accept the changes that have occurred in him, to realize the change in the value system, not to speed up events, to respect a person's personal space, to learn to outline one's own boundaries; show patience etc. Because of the military operations in our country, attention to the factors of family adaptation of the participants in the hostilities ends after returning to the conditions of civilian life. The family itself can become an effective and real resource of support for combatants
