The specifics of the professional activity of a special piano teacher in the system of university education are revealed. The main components of the professional activity of a teacher-instrumentalist of a special piano at the university are determined: 1.) the purpose and tasks of the teacher's work in the piano class; 2) the subject of activity; 3) the conditions of activity of the teacher of the piano class; 4) subjects of educational activity; 5) the object of educational activity of the teacher and the student; 6) the means of activity of the teacher; 7) the result of the joint activity of the teacher and the student. An activity approach is considered, which involves familiarizing students with classical and modern approaches to instrumental performance, acoustic and digital musical instruments, various ensemble forms in the context of their formation and development, information and communication technologies in the field of piano performance. Attention is also drawn to the practical aspect of the piano teacher's professional activity, which is artistically creative in its essence. The artistic and creative activity of the teacher is undoubtedly related to musical performance, but it has its differences due to the level of formation of personal qualities and creative skills of the musician-performer, as well as specific features of musical and creative activity. Therefore, a significant part of the instrumental and performance disciplines in the curriculum of students of piano specialization (special instrument, piano duet, instrumental ensemble, concertmaster class) have a practical and activity orientation, and their teaching is based on the pedagogical talent, methodological competence, and performing creativity of the teacher and his the ability to bring up the same qualities in the students of their class. The definition of the key concept of this research is formulated.
