Abstract

Military operations on the territory of Ukraine raise new challenges for specialists in various fields, including speech therapy. War, despite its negative consequences, often stimulates the development of scientific research and practical approaches in various areas of assistance to the military after trauma. Logopedists and speech and language pathologists have to adapt to new conditions by developing innovative methods and approaches to diagnosing and rehabilitating speech disorders. Changes in military technologies and weaponry lead to complex polytrauma that affects various organs and systems, creating complex challenges for multidisciplinary teams that include doctors, rehabilitation therapists, speech and language pathologists and other specialists. Common speech disorders in the military include aphasia, dysarthria, dysphonia and dysphagia. A separate group includes soldiers with stuttering caused by traumatic brain injuries, contusions, etc. These disorders remain insufficiently studied and require more attention from scientists and practicing speech therapists. The Ukrainian experience of providing speech therapy to military personnel with speech disorders is just beginning to take shape, so it is important to pay attention to international practices. Integrating the best international practices into the speech rehabilitation of Ukrainian soldiers will improve the effectiveness of treatment. The article analyses modern methods of diagnosis and therapy, focusing on innovative approaches and successful examples of rehabilitation. The review includes a study of the impact of an integrated approach to treatment, including speech therapy, psychiatric treatment and alternative methods such as meditation and breathing practices. An important component is the collaboration between different specialists in multidisciplinary teams to ensure the most effective care for patients. The implementation of these practices in the Ukrainian rehabilitation system will help improve the quality of life of military personnel affected by combat and contribute to their successful social adaptation.
