Abstract

The article reveals the role of cinema as a propaganda tool of the Nazi occupation authorities in the occupied territories of Ukraine during the Second World War (1941-1944). The author shows the influence of cinema on the behavior and activities of residents of the occupied cities and towns of Ukraine, its impact on the formation of a positive image of Nazi Germany and its use as a counter to Soviet propaganda. The study was facilitated by the use of compar ative historical, problematic and chronological methods, as well as the method of generalization and systematization, which allowed to show the level of influence of cinema on the population of the occupied territories of Ukraine and film propaganda as one of the maine lements of the system of ideological in fluence of the Nazi occupation authorities on the population of the occupied territories. It is revealed that the main task of German authors and directors, films that were shown to the population of the occupied territories, wastohave a great moral and psychological impact on people, to ensure the support of the local population for the Nazi army and to facilitate the advance of German troops further east into the country. The author shows the network of inemas created by the occupation authorities in the territories under their control, their mode of operation, and the level of quality of these films. The author concludes that, despite the use of various propaganda methods and technologies by the Nazi occupation authorities, including cinema, the majority of the population of the occupied territories of Ukraine did not fall under their influence, and later began to ignore ideological films altogether. Despite the fact that cinema became quite widespread, people went to see mostly fiction and entertainment films based on Ukrainian works and directed by Ukrainian filmmakers. The population did not accept ideological documentaries and rarely visited cinemas that offered this ideological product. The study has shown that Nazi propaganda in the occupied territories of Ukraine, despite its scale, was generally ineffective. The population of occupied Ukraine mostly distrusted Hitler's government and its "neworder". The article identifies issues that need to be studied in the future, in particular, an important aspect is the documentary chronicle that showed the true situation at the fronts and in the rear of the German army; the reaction of the Ukrainian population to propaganda films and boycotts of their screenings; changes in approaches to Nazi propaganda during 1941-1943
