Abstract

The Second World War left a deep traumatic mark on the historical memory of mankind. It was the most cruel, bloody and destructive in the history of wars. This issue has one of the largest historiographies in the world. The article deals with the emergence of centers of military conflicts in the 1930s of the twentieth century. The authors reconstruct historical events, which makes it possible to understand the real causes of the Second World War. The article focuses on the origins of fascism and Nazism, the global political and military confrontation between Nazi Germany, its allies and the countries of the Anti-Hitler coalition. The authors prove that the political and economic interests of various world leaders, as well as personal ambitions and short-sightedness of the leaders of the world’s leading powers allowed A. Hitler to destroy the world international order, that had developed after the First World War. The policy of “indulgence”, “non-interference”, “appeasement” of A. Hitler on the part of the political circles of the West, on the one hand, and attempts to use the Nazis in their political projects and partnership with them in the first stage of the World War by the Stalinist leadership of the USSR put the world on the brink of a global catastrophe. The authors argue that imperial policy, manipulation of human consciousness, militarism, contempt for human rights and personal freedom became the ideological forerunners of World War II. Further post-war history proved that the victory over Nazism and the militarism of 1945 was only their political and military defeat. From the end of the World War to the present, there has been a historical reincarnation of totalitarian, anti-democratic regimes in the world. A certain consolidation of world dictators and their attempt to establish a new world order by rewriting the pages of world history is clearly visible. They, in fact, do not shy away from using the shameful practices of the Nazis. The Russian federation`s attack on the independent Ukrainian state clearly proved this. Nuclear blackmail, imperial and clerical ideologies, political manipulations, and disregard for people’s free choice have become their everyday practices. The threat to the very existence of humanity in the 21st century has become a reality
