Abstract
Amidst the full-scale war against Russia, the important tasks of Ukraine's foreign policy today are to ensure broad international support, to build a favorable image abroad, and to develop relations with the countries of the so-called Global South. Latin America is a complex, rapidly developing region with a significant Russian influence, and is in the focus of Ukrainian foreign policy today. The lack of proper strategic work on developing relations with countries of the region during Ukraine's independence has led to the fact that Ukraine has problems of being understood in the countries of the region. As a result, there is a need for a strategic approach when it comes to building our own image there and establishing relations with the mentioned countries. The purpose of this article is to analyze the problems of Ukraine's positioning in Latin America and to identify promising areas of representation. It has been established in the article that the main problem of Ukraine's image in the region is a poor recognizability of our country, lack of information about both cultural and economic achievements of Ukraine and our country. The article outlines the mechanisms of influence, spread, and key narratives of Russian propaganda in the region. It is noted that despite the developed mechanism of Russia's informational influence in Latin America, the audience of directly Russian sources of information is relatively small. Nevertheless, it is worth considering the tendency to positively perceive Russia's messages by the local population, in particular, the thesis that uses distrust of the United States and portrays Ukraine as a "puppet state." Nevertheless, the analysis shows that there is a strong potential for developing Ukraine’s own positioning. The article notes that in the process of building Ukraine's positioning in the region, we should take into account the specifics of individual countries and the presence of a large Ukrainian diaspora in countries such as Argentina and Brazil. Considering this, it would be appropriate to focus on the achievements of ethnic Ukrainians in Latin America to enhance Ukraine's positive image. Among other promising areas of positioning, the article highlights the following: a common "colonial past," Ukraine's role in food security, achievements in innovation, poverty alleviation, the prestige of higher education in Ukraine, and the possibility of involving Latin American companies in postwar reconstruction.
