Abstract

The paper examines binary oppositions in J. Rhys's novel "Wide Sargasso Sea". The antinomies "masculine - feminine", "I - another", "life - death", "heaven - hell", "colony - metropolis" are considered at the plot-compositional, ideological-semantic and figurative levels, which are interconnected together by the image of the main character and reproduce the general artistic picture of the world.
