Abstract
The article describes the study, the result of which was the method of self-worth diagnosis. The approaches to understanding self-worth by A. Adler, E. Bern, T. Harris, V. Satir, A. Lengle, L. Burbo, L. Prosandeeva, and the existing methods and scales aimed at measuring various aspects of self-worth are briefly considered. Here are the methods «Comparative Index of Inferiority» by P. N. Dixon and D. A. Strano, «Driver's Questionnaire» by M. Cox, «My Reflections on Self-Worth» and «Research on Self-Worth of an Individual» by L. Prosandeeva, the «Self-Worth» scale from «World Assumptions Scale» by R. Yanov-Bulman and from the methodology «General competence» by O. S. Shtepa. The need to create a measurement technique specific to self- worth. The results of the exploratory factor analysis, the justification of the reliability and validity of the created scales are presented, the correlations between the obtained scales and the methods included in the research to confirm their criterion validity are analyzed in detail. The sample consisted of 111 people for 55 questions, in this order the minimum requirements for conducting were met. The selected 18 primary factors were summarized using a secondary factor analysis with the Verimax rotation method, thus obtaining 5 scales: 3 of them analyze different aspects of self-worth (Perfectionism, Need for acceptance and Social importance/ alienation), and 2 more are separate constructs: «Self-acceptance» and «Self-integrity – Self-contradiction». The “Perfectionism» scale is explained by the fact that impaired self-esteem is compensated for by excessive standards of work, striving for perfection. High values on the scale "Needs for acceptance" reveal individuals with dependence on others, who have difficulties in resisting external influence and defending their own position. High values on the «Social Importance – Social Alienation» factor are obtained by individuals with a low sense of self-worth who feel unappreciated and unaccepted in relationships with others. A conclusion was made about the suitability of the created methodology for assessing the components of self-worth and their violation, as well as about the autonomy of the constructs "Self-worth" and "Self-acceptance".
