Abstract
This article examines a specific sociocultural phenomenon that had and still has an impact on the formation of the mentality of Koreans and is manifested at various levels of their lives. In light of the fact that the popularity of Korean culture has recently increased dramatically, the problem of studying the phenomenon of Korean culture, the category of filial reverence “Hyo”, has become even more relevant. Due to the fact that the category of filial reverence, which came to Korea from China, played a major role in shaping the mentality of Koreans, it is important to study the phenomenon of the Hyo category in order to understand Korean culture. The category of “Hyo” is a rather complex philosophy in Korean culture and is not easy to understand for foreigners from other civilizations. This category should be perceived as one of the peculiarities of the Korean social system, as a core element of Korean culture, as an initial component of Korean society. In addition, the category of “Hyo” should be perceived as a universal regulator of relations and attitudes in Korean society. However, even today, many scholars of the Korean Studies, especially Western scholars, believe that the Hyo category is a phenomenon that belongs only to the category of family ethics, which is not entirely correct, because this category manifests itself at the level of relationships of individuals in society in general, relationships and attitudes of people towards each other at work and even in the attitude of citizens to the authorities and the state as a whole, which is reflected in the article. Today, it is necessary to consider the Hyo category as a cultural phenomenon that manifests itself in various aspects, such as political, social, and economical. Judging by the fact that both North and South Korea are proud of the Hyo category and its influence on the national mentality, it has been and remains an important universal component of Korean society, therefore, its correct understanding is very important when learning the Korean language, as it not only gives an understanding of how certain elements of the language came into use, but also allows you to correctly navigate the hierarchical aspects of Korean society and accordingly correctly adjust one’s speech and behavior in general.
