Abstract

For the first time, the article examines the psychological problem of death and immortality in S. King's novel “Firestarter.” Stephen King is undoubtedly one of the most famous authors in the world, whose works of horror and dark fantasy have captivated readers for decades. Filled with terrifying monsters, paranormal phenomena, and psychological dramas, his books make us ponder the deepest fears and dark sides of human nature. King's works explore a wide range of psychological topics, such as: • Fear: King skillfully uses fear to engage readers and make them feel emotions they would normally try to avoid. His monsters and horrors serve as metaphors for our real fears, such as the fear of death, loss, pain, madness, and the unknown. • Trauma: Many of King's characters experience trauma that affects their lives and worldviews. These traumas can be physical, emotional, or psychological, and they often become the driving force behind the plot. • Psychological disorders: King portrays various psychological disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder. His writings give us insight into how these disorders affect people who suffer from them and their loved ones. • Evil and Good: King makes us think about the nature of evil and good. His works show that evil can be present both in the external world and in our own psyche. They also give us hope that good can triumph over evil, even in the most difficult situations. The purpose of the article is to investigate the problem of death and immortality in S. King's novel “Firestarter.” On the basis of psychological research, the author comes to the conclusion that S. King's novel “Firestarter” raises the issue of death and the immortality of the individual, because his main characters, thanks to a dangerous experiment, for a while resemble immortals in miniature: they have superpowers , which can affect the surrounding world. But superpowers do not bring them happiness. Andy and his daughter Charlie, in the terminology of N. Khamitov, are people of marginal existence, on the one hand, and on the other hand, they are a symbol of the embodiment of a person who has lost part of his human nature under the influence of transhumanism methods. Stephen King's work has its scientific value for further psychological research into the problem of death and the immortality of the individual.
