Abstract
This article is focused on the analysis of peculiar features characterizing couple relationships in families separated due to ongoing hostilities in Ukraine. The psychological assessment of emotional relationships between married partner was done using the author-developed questionnaire. The Quality of Life Scale adapted by O. Chaban and the Love and Liking Scale by Z. Rubin were used to explore generalized perceptions about the state of life functioning. Significant differences in test results were identified using statistical data processing methods. The empirical study results have persuasively confirmed that the long-term separation leads to multiple and often irreversible implications, while the chronic stress negatively affects the family relationships. The response analysis shows that the most important factors impacting the family relationships in the post-evacuation setting, in opinion of female respondents, include the changing environment, the lack of intimacy and the large distance between the family members. It is demonstrated that respondents are mostly concerned by the uncertainty regarding their future, the emotional exhaustion, and the fear of life of their spouse. The study shows that the aggravation of family relationships happens due to conflicting visions of the future, the lack of support, and the addictive behavior of husbands. It has been revealed that the absolute majority of female respondents use problem-focused coping strategies, such as mastering new knowledge and skills (professional occupation, education, hobbies, travelling, et cetera), which they perceive as an opportunity to dramatically change their lives. Another positive aspect of the ongoing situation highlighted by female respondents is a chance to reconsider their values, develop resilience, gain useful skills, strengthen the feeling of love and stay in safe environment. The conducted empirical study supports a conclusion that the forced separation of families is an extremely challenging and stressful situation for all parties involved, who may greatly benefit from the psychological follow-up.
