Abstract
The article is devoted to the theoretical and empirical study of the phenomenon of parental emotional burnout during wartime. The relevance of further research on this concept in contemporary conditions is substantiated, as the fulfillment of complex and demanding parental duties during war is accompanied by heightened stress levels, which can negatively impact family well-being and child development. Emotional burnout is characterized by exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced self-esteem. The contributions of I. Roskam and M. Mikolajczak enabled the adaptation of the burnout model to the parenting context, highlighting aspects such as emotional exhaustion, emotional distancing from the child, and doubts about one's parenting abilities. The main factors of parental emotional burnout are identified, including a lack of support from family and society; high societal expectations of parenting; marital conflicts; insufficient emotional self-regulation skills; parental perfectionism; stress related to wartime conditions; financial difficulties, and more. The consequences of parental emotional burnout on the child have been identified. It has been empirically proven that parents of primary school-aged children experience a high level of burnout. Correlational analysis confirmed an inverse relationship between subjective well-being and burnout, as well as the importance of resilience in mitigating it. The war significantly impacted respondents, causing emotional and physical exhaustion, financial difficulties, and disruptions in family relationships. The impact of parental emotional burnout on the execution of parental functions and attitudes toward children was studied. The analysis of the empirical data demonstrates that a high level of parental emotional burnout can negatively influence child development. Emotional burnout significantly affects parents' perceptions of their family role, thereby limiting their ability and resources for constructive interaction with children. It also restricts their interests, intensifies conflicts, reduces authority, and leads to dissatisfaction with their parental role. Emphasis is placed on the need to find ways to prevent parental emotional burnout. The prospect for further research is identified as the development of a training program for the prevention of parental emotional burnout through enhancing resilience and improving emotional self-regulation skills.
