Abstract

For a modern person, his body becomes the essential condition that largely determines professional, social and even personal success. We can even say that the idea of the body is today one of the aspects of social ideas about a person and his place in society. A person's bodily self is one of the most important components of the entire self-image, because the body can be observed and evaluated constantly. Body perception consists of mental, emotional, physical, and historical aspects. According to researchers in the field of physicality, a healthy body involves the mobility of the bodily self with an unchanged body scheme, an internal core, the realism of one's own bodily image and the volume of one's body, seeing it in three dimensions. In psychology, there are different approaches to determining the place and role of the bodily self in the personality structure - from almost completely excluding it from the structure of self-consciousness to considering the bodily self as one of the leading factors in the organization of the psyche. Attitudes to the development of the bodily self are even more diverse, so the main task of our research was to identify the stages of this process. This article is aimed at researching the current state and systematization of existing ideas about the image and scheme of the body. The following criteria were selected for the analysis of theoretical models: explanation of the mechanism underlying the formation and reconstruction of body image, identification of aspects of body image, the development of which is explained by the presented concepts. The issue of the difference between the scheme and the image of the body, which is relevant in connection with the clarification of the neural mechanisms of the subject's representation of his body, was separately considered. As part of the discussion of the phenomenological level of bodily experience, assumptions are considered, according to which the body schema is a fragmentary, not a hierarchical structure. Significant differences in the understanding of the basic mechanisms of body image formation are shown, which is caused by attention to various bodily phenomena.
