Abstract

Contrary to official statistics showing the absolute predominance of pre-schools with Ukrainian as the language of instruction, the communicative power of the Russian language in the educational space of the capital remains high. It is worth noting that research on the study and analysis of mass contact bilingualism in the children's environment is gaining ISSN 2308-4855 (Print), ISSN 2308-4863 (Online) 209Мовознавство. Лiтературознавство particular importance. The purpose of the article − is to comprehensively analyse the language situation in preschool education institutions in Kyiv in the war period in 2022–2024. Achieving this goal involves solving the following tasks: 1) to describe the current language situation in the capital; 2) to study the state of actual use of the Ukrainian language in preschool education institutions in Kyiv; 3) to find out the impact of preschool institutions not only on children's speech behaviour. The relevance of the study is determined by the need to intensify sociolinguistic research, studies of the language situation of preschool education institutions in the capital, the functioning of the Ukrainian language in children's speech, which is of not only theoretical but also practical importance for increasing the communicative power of the state language in the educational space. It should be emphasised that no special study of the language situation in preschool education institutions in Kyiv has been carried out so far. The following research methods were used to achieve the aim and objectives of the study: theoretical: systematic analysis of linguistic and sociological literature; historical and genetic method; empirical: questionnaires; observation; method of quantitative calculations. A child's speech is formed under the influence of parental speech. Unfortunately, today the share of Ukrainian-speaking families does not exceed 38% in the city of Kyiv. The problem of Ukrainian-Russian bilingualism in the educational space of Kyiv is extremely complex and controversial. In our opinion, educational institutions lay the foundation for mastering the state language and form a competent speaker. The results of the sociolinguistic survey showed that the use of Ukrainian prevails in pre-school education institutions, but there are institutions where staff still actively use Russian.
