Abstract

The article covers a number of issues related to the scientific, educational and literary activities of Mykola Rigelman. In the process of research, special attention was paid to the contribution of a representative of the Ukrainian left-bank nobility to the preservation of Ukrainian cultural heritage. In order to reconstruct the role of the individual in the formation of cultural processes in the Left-Bank Ukraine, a comprehensive methodological approach was used, combining the following methods: internal criticism, culturological, historical-genetic, descriptive, etc. In the process of scientific research, attention was focused on the work of the landowner in the Kyiv Archeographic Commission, which marked the beginning of the formation of Mykola Rigelman as a researcher of the Ukrainian historical and cultural heritage. It was established that he paid most attention to ethnographic research, popularization of education among the general population, in particular peasants, and preservation of folklore heritage. Among the set of measures initiated by Mykola Rigelman, it is worth highlighting the following: publication of ethnographic collections, in particular by M. Maksymovych and A. Metlynsky; preparation of re-publication of articles from the journal «Selskoe Chittenye» in Ukrainian for the general public, development of a project for the creation of an educational institution in order to train qualified personnel in the agricultural direction. In the process of research, it was found out that Mykola Rigelman was an ardent supporter of the idea of returning Ukrainian influence to Kyiv and combating the dominance of the Polish nobility in the Right Bank. Its implementation included, among other things, the creation of places of memory that would remind of the victorious past of the Ukrainian people. Therefore, Mykola Rigelman became one of the initiators of the Bohdan Khmelnytsky monument in Kyiv.
