Abstract
The article substantiates the relevance and effectiveness of applying a coaching approach to the development of communication competence among undergraduate students majoring in Management. It emphasizes that effective interpersonal communication is a critical component of managerial performance and one of the core soft skills in modern professional training. Drawing on the author’s six-year experience teaching specialized courses such as “Mentorship, Coaching and Career Management”, “Mediation and Emotional Intelligence as Management Tools”, “Empathic Leadership and Teamwork”, and “Management” at Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University, the study explores the integration of coaching techniques into the educational process. The methodology combines theoretical analysis, empirical research, and evaluation tools, including student surveys, observation during coaching sessions, analysis of reflective journals, and comparison of communication skills before and after the application of coaching practices. Key coaching tools used in the learning environment include powerful open-ended questions, “I-messages,” 3Dcommunication (I–You–Interaction model), reflective “mirror” dialogues, and role integration exercises. These tools were adapted to the academic context and introduced during practical sessions of communication-focused topics. The study presents a series of illustrative cases that demonstrate positive changes in students’ communication style, self-confidence, conflict resolution skills, and ability to engage in constructive team interaction. For example, students overcame the fear of public speaking, improved emotional expression, and learned to navigate interpersonal tensions through guided reflection and facilitated dialogue. The outcomes of the study indicate an increased level of emotional literacy, communicative clarity, and cooperative behavior among students, as confirmed by their self-assessments and peer feedback. The research highlights the importance of creating a psychologically safe learning environment in which students feel supported, valued, and able to develop through experience, dialogic engagement, and personal insight. It argues that the coaching approach not only enhances specific communication skills but also contributes to the formation of a responsible, empathetic leadership style and a mature professional identity. The article concludes by suggesting future directions for research, including the development of coaching-based models for managerial education, tools for assessing communicative maturity, and the broader application of coaching to leadership development in dynamic organizational contexts.
